What a lovely practical site with great facilities.
Great spot to explore Dartington Hall. We camped whilst we attend a weekend course at the campus and it was very easy and pleasant.
It is basically a big open field. The field is on a slight slope but level (no real bumps etc) and grass is cut well. It has everything you need. Showers are hot, free and very clean. Only 2 showers though in the ladies toilets, I’m assuming 2 in the gents. I think there were a couple of other toilets dotted around the site. So it might get a bit busy if the field was full. Really good spacious disabled/ family shower toilet room. Has a bench and a heater.
Lots of picnic benches dotted around and Some wooden shelters looked like they were being built. Looked like plenty of fresh water points. Also the site has some lighting which is useful.
Washing up facilities were very basic, under cover but outside, no hot water and the sinks had some rubbish in them. No fridge or anything like that (unless it’s in reception).
It’s a no car campsite (which I love) and the barrows provide from the drop off point are clean and big and light and surprisingly easy to push. The level (no bumps) terrain helps. Although the drop off point is at the bottom of the field (which is on a hill and the 4 EHU points are at the very top corner of the field ) which is on a hill .... going up! But I suppose it means it’s down hill when packing the car.
There is the scope to drop off at the top if you have mobility issues. This is behind a locked gate so need to check with reception to get permission.
They were very easy to deal with. I booked and paid online. Any questions were answered quickly by email.
We had an early start our last day and asked beforehand if we could pack down at the end of the day rather than before 11 and they were absolutely fine. Again we were out of season.
It’s apparently a newish site and I get the feeling it’s going to mature well, maybe a few added extras to come over time.
My only complaint would be the bin situation.
The only bins were glass, food waste and landfill. There was a bin that said plastic waste near reception but it was full of paper.
If I could suggest anything it would be, bins, please add a plastic, tins and cardboard/ paper bin. Also a hot ash bin would be useful for bbqs and stoves.
